Do you need a doctor’s note to come to the clinic?

Majority of the service offered at the clinic DO NOT require a doctor’s note.  Chiropractic, Naturopathic and chiropody services usually do not require a doctor’s note for insurance claims.  Certain insurance plane will require a doctor’s not for physiotherapy, massage therapy or acupuncture. It is best that you check with your insurance provider or we will be happy to check for you on your first visit.

Is it covered under OHIP?

First Markham Physio & Rehab is a private rehab clinic and does not have OHIP coverage although all services offered at the clinic are covered under most private health insurance plans. We also accept workplace injury claims and auto injury claims.  We can direct bill for workplace injuries and motor vehicle accident claims.

What to expect on the first visit?

On your initial consult with our professionals we will do a comprehensive history and examination of your condition. This may require further diagnostic tests if required by your family physician. Once we have completed examination we will spend some time explaining your condition and the treatment options we can offer you. Each person is different so we will treat every case individually. The first visit will also include treatment for the condition. Expect to stay at the clinic for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

What is the difference between a chiropractor and physiotherapist?

Both the chiropractor and physiotherapist at First Markham Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation are fully licensed.  Both fields scope of practice are very similar as both can treat neuromusculoskeletal conditions.  The difference is the choice of therapy and the knowledge and skill of the practitioner.  At First Markham Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, all our practitioners are well versed in all injuries to your physical body. 

Which services are covered by my extended health insurance plan? 

Majority of services or products offered at the clinic are covered by extended health insurance plans.  Every insurance plan will cover different amounts for different services. This depends on your company and the option that you have purchased. To find further details of your coverage it should be accessible through your online account or through your HR. Does your clinic accept Auto Accident insurance?

Yes, we are a FSCO regulated clinic and can directly deal with your auto insurance company including direct billing. Our experienced staff and professionals can answer all questions regarding your injuries or the claiming process. On your first visit, we will go over the full details of your accident and injuries. From there, we will determine the best treatment plan based on your needs, and even contact your insurance company on your behalf. Treatment options include physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture or even psychotherapy if necessary.  

What should I have with me if I am visiting your clinic for the first time?         

Bring your photo ID, any existing referral notes and/or diagnostic tests from your treating medical practitioner and any insurance information you have.  

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable clothing is recommended for all appointments. Please note that the area of injury will need to be exposed for proper assessment. If the injury is below the waist down please bring a pair of shorts; if it is neck and/or shoulder related please bring a short sleave shirt. Wear comfortable clothing as there may be exercises taught during your treatment session.

How long are the treatments and what should I expect?

Depending on your needs, area(s) to be treated, and type of treatment, you should expect to be here for between 30-60 mins. 

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept Debit, Visa, MasterCard, cash or cheque. We do not accept American Express.

Do you accept walk-in patients?

Yes we do accept walk-in patients but we prefer that you call ahead of time to see if the service that you require is available at the most convenient time for you.

What is the difference between a chiropodist and podiatrist?

Chiropodists and podiatrists are the only recognized and regulated foot specialists in Ontario. Practitioners who are educated in the US or came to Ontario before 1993 are known as podiatrists, while those trained in Ontario or came to Ontario after 1993 are called chiropodists.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see the chiropodist?

No, referrals from a physician or other health care provider are not necessary to see the chiropodist. You can call us at (905) 940-1777 to schedule an appointment to see the chiropodist.
